GLI

Bringing the Future of Leadership to the Present

Reflections

"The GLI is, in my view, the premier leadership organization in the United States, and perhaps the World. While studying and practicing leadership within the GLI, I knew we were building something very special. However, upon reflection, and now that I am in a full-time faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Management at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO, this positive view of the GLI has only strengthened. Under the leadership of Bruce Avolio and Fred Luthans, along with the world-class support staff, the GLI is THE premier leadership group which will only get better in the future. I am proud to be continually associated with the GLI and that association is something I will bring with me for the rest of my life. I am thankful for the ongoing opportunity to study with such esteemed, hard-working, and genuine colleagues and I look forward to our future journey together."

"Being a part of the first cohort of students through GLI was a challenge but also a great opportunity for us as students to shape the future of GLI. It is very satisfying now as I watch it grow and see the great opportunities that incoming students have."

"There is a lot of research activity going on at GLI, focusing largely on the new constructs of authentic leadership and positive psychology. Such a strategic focus is quite rare in academic research centers and it offers GLI an opportunity to uniquely brand itself among the numerous leadership research centers. I have found it highly interesting to observe the process whereby individual associates define alternative means or perspectives in pursuing such a research agenda. Academic research is being complemented by several large-scale leadership-development projects, offering GLI associates opportunities to learn through participation. This combination is critical for students of leadership and I have enjoyed and learned from my own participation in these projects.
From an organizational perspective, GLI operates as a semi-autonomous research center in the College of Business, with several key individuals offering academic, administrative and technical support to all associates."

"GLI is a world-class center for the study of what constitutes positive forms or leadership. No where else is there such a density of faculty and students specifically studying high-impact leadership, nor the focus on or passion for rigorous empirical research to test their theoretical models. Their advances on models of authentic leadership and positive organizational behavior are at the Vanguard of emerging leadership theory. We greatly value our collaborative relationship with GLI."
